LAS VEGAS, Nevada – February 13, 2008: In a ceremony set to coincide with the opening their new high tech corporate headquarters on Tuesday February 19, 2008, the employees of eCommLink will present a check for $3,000 to the Southern Nevada chapter of the American Red Cross.
The donation, a result of an employee-organized and sponsored bake sale held in December of 2007, will go toward the charity's Fire Hurts...Red Cross Helps campaign.
"We want to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors who have suffered the heart-breaking loss that accompanies a home fire," explained eCommLink President, Jack Williams, who helped organize the initiative. "And while we can't replace personal items, family photographs and mementos that have been destroyed, we can help families get back on their feet and make a fresh start."
Home fire is the most common disaster affecting families in southern Nevada. This year, the Red Cross expects to provide $300,000 in emergency assistance to families displaced by fire.
According to Southern Nevada Chapter CEO Jeffrey Varnes, "Local Red Cross volunteers respond to a home fire every 34 hours, day or night. Donations to the Fire Hurts…Red Cross Helps campaign will ensure that the Red Cross can be there when needed, to provide local families with emergency food, clothing and shelter when they need it most. Donors can be assured," added Varnes, "that every dollar raised by the Fire Hurts…Red Cross Helps campaign will stay in the community and be used only to assist families displaced by fire."
The goal of this year's Fire Hurts...Red Cross Helps campaign is $150,000. The employees of eCommLink have planned additional fundraising activities throughout the year to help the charity reach its goal.

An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money, and blood to do its work. To donate to the Fire Hurts…Red Cross Helps campaign, visit www.redcrosslasvegas.org.
